There are currently 7 residents of the Tuscarora and Allegheny Apartment Buildings that are a part of the Messiah Village (MV) Complex. This Ministry consists of taking Communion to these individuals on most if not every Sunday throughout the year.
A list of the seven affected residents are:
TUSCARORA BUILDING
1ST Floor Room 810 Leona Kruger 2ND Floor Room 843 Betty Galvin 3RD Floor Room 899 Hershel and Rosann Boyd Room 883 Fran Mayer ALLEGHENY BUILDING
2ND Floor Room 743 Sara Quinn Room 753 Betty Wewer
A Schedule will be prepared every quarter and shared with the apartment building residents, so they know when and at what time a Minister will be coming. Under normal circumstances, 10:00 AM will be the usual visit time (immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass).At the present time, Leona Kruger (Room 810) has agreed to let everyone congregate in her apartment for a Communion Service, so there is no need to traverse through both Apartment Buildings, visiting all 6 rooms. Should that change in the future, an alternate location in which all can congregate will be found.
Following are the “procedures” on how Ministers will conduct the Sunday Messiah Village Apartment Building Ministry:
It is suggested that 5 Hosts be taken. If more residents than that show up, the Host(s) can be broken in half.
It is recommended that a half dozen Parish Bulletins be taken to distribute.The Messiah Campus Map shows how to get to the apartment buildings from the “main” Messiah Building. Park in the Visitor Parking Lot, and go into the “Village Commons” entrance. The two apartment buildings—Tuscarora on the right and Allegheny on the left—are connected via a “village commons”.
The Messiah Appartment Floor Plan shows the floor layout of the two apartment buildings. As soon as the Minister enters the first set of glass doors, there will be a phone on the left. Pick up the phone; a call will be placed directly to the receptionist in the MV main building. Then:Tell the receptionist your name, where you’re from, and that you’re here to bring Communion to seven of the apartment building residents;
Ask him/her to open the second set of glass doors, as well as the inside door leading to the Tuscarora Apartment Building;
If she asks for a reference (unlikely, but just in case), give them Leona Kruger’s name, Room 810.
If she asks what “door number” you’re at, tell them “Door A” (the sign is on the outside wall of the building).The receptionist will then let the Minister in through the second set of glass doors. Go straight ahead until you get to the Fireside Grill, then turn right. If the receptionist has not also opened the single solid door that accesses the Tuscarora Building, on the right wall just before you get to the door will be a red button with a red sign that says: “PUSH BUTTON FOR ASSISTANCE”. Push the button. The same receptionist will probably immediately open the inside door. Otherwise, ask him/her to open the inside door leading to the Tuscarora Building.
In the plan of the First Floor, Room 810 (Leona Kruger’s) will be ahead on the left. Ring the door bell.
Ministers should use the following rite for the Communion Service:
Sign of the Cross Greeting (“Peace to this house…”, or something similar)
Act of Contrition (same one used at Mass: “I confess to Almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters…”)
Reading or Gospel (the daily readings can be found in the Parish Bulletin; be sure to bring along a Bible)
Our Father
Communion
Closing Prayer (from the “Communion of the Sick” book, or of your own choosing)
Blessing (“May the Almighty and merciful Lord bless and protect us…”, or something similar)Before leaving, confirm with the residents that another SEAS Minister will be back the following week, at the time shown on their schedule.
When exiting the building retrace the steps as noted above. One warning, however. When you get back to the solid door at the end of the corridor leading to Room 810, do NOT press on the panic bars on that door. Doing so will set off alarms and summon security. Rather, on the wall on the right just before you get to the door is a black plate with the words: ‘WAVE TO OPEN”. Waving a hand in front of the place will open the door.
It is NOT necessary to contact the receptionist to exit either of the two sets of glass doors leading to the outside.
The total time the Service will last shouldn’t exceed 15 minutes, allowing time to socialize if desired.
For your information only, also the Second and Third Floor layouts of the Messiah Village Apartment Buildings are included in the floor plans. This is merely for your information; at the current time, there is NO need to make any room visits (other than Room 810).
The pyx must be purified after each visit to Messiah Village. The procedure for doing this is at the bottom of this page.
MESSIAH VILLAGE SUNDAY MINISTRY NOTESPURIFICATION OF THE PYX
(JANUARY 2011)With the presence of a sacrarium, it is now incumbent on each of us to properly purify the pyx upon returning to the church after a sick call to Messiah Village or elsewhere. The proper procedure is as follows:
Leftover Hosts should never be allowed to remain in the pyx, but should be promptly returned to the tabernacle, if possible.
A small number (up to 5) of Hosts can be consumed if it is not practical to return them to the tabernacle because of Mass going on.
The pyx should then be carefully purified by first using the fingertip that has been moistened in the sacristy sink to consume as many small particles of the Blessed Sacrament as possible.
Next, the pyx should be filled with water from the sink. Any remaining particles of the Host should be allowed to dissolve. The ablution should be poured down the sacrarium (not the sink).
The first EMHC returning from Messiah Village should retrieve a clean purificator from the Sacristy drawer, and dry the pyx. The pyx should be returned to the burse, and both should be returned to the “Messiah Village Drawer” in the Sacristy, along with the purificator.
The other two EMHC’s returning from Messiah Village should use the purificator that has previously been placed in the Messiah Village Drawer to dry his/her pyx.
The last EMHC to return to the church from his/her Messiah Village visit should place the soiled purificator in the dirty linen basket after it’s been used to dry his/her pyx.
